As part of the HSE Team you will play a critical role in ensuring that our people and contractors can work in the safest and most effective way possible.

This key foundational requirement which ensures that our business works within the envelope of the relevant UK legal framework.

 

apetito is growing, and to support this growth we are embarking on a new chapter within our operations by building a new state of the art frozen food manufacturing facility in our hometown of Trowbridge in Wiltshire, which we have named "Kitchen West". As such, this role is full-time on site 5 days per week. 

 

The Senior HSE Manager – Kitchen West will manage all HSE aspects of the journey from the building of the new facility to the operation of the new facility and onwards.

Responsibilities

The Kitchen West Project – to early 2027

  • Manage the Clients HSE duties on a £100m building project as to the CDM requirement
  • Manage the operational HSE design aspect for the introduction of new machinery for the new factory working environment
  • Ensure that plant & equipment for the new facility is HSE production ready when required
  • Relevant HSE training for the new facility is in place ready for production at the required date
  • Work closely with the sustainability team to develop the basis of ISO 50001 to optimise the energy performance of the new facility
  • The lead support person to the Head of HSE for the development of new standards related to the business safety risk profile

Kitchen West Manufacturing – 2027 onwards

  • Ensure that all new equipment at Kitchen West is compliant with external and internal standards
  • Develop HSE related training related to the safety risk profile of the new facility
  • Work closely with the apetito sustainability team to develop ISO 50001 certification for the new facility
  • Lead and support multi-functional teams to complete risk assessments to identify and mitigate hazards using the hierarchy of control
  • Support multi-functional teams to complete incident investigation and identify root cause and appropriate to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Monitor and report on progress to the HSE Plan, HSE KPIs and performance metrics to senior leaders within the business
  • Engage with shop floor personal, identify improvement opportunities, and deliver behavioural & cultural improvement
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and other relevant standards.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and manage environmental reporting and sustainability initiatives.

About you

Essential

  • NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent HSE qualification)
  • Proven experience in a similar HSE role
  • Experienced in ensuring Client’s H&S duties under CDM are followed and in full
  • Strong knowledge of UK HSE legislation and best practices
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Experience in managing ISO 45001, 14001 and 50001 certifications

Desirable

  • Chartered Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH) or working towards it
  • Environmental qualification (e.g., IEMA)
