Overview

Are you a passionate change agent who thrives on unlocking efficiencies and empowering teams?

We’re seeking a results-driven Continuous Improvement Manager to elevate our national frozen food distribution network.

You’ll deploy advanced Lean tools and Six Sigma methodologies to transform warehouse and transport performance—delivering tangible value across safety, service, cost, and quality.

This is more than a process role—it’s about building a culture of relentless improvement at the heart of one of the UK’s most vital frozen supply chains.

Who we are

apetito is the UK’s leading food supplier to the health and social care sectors serving more than 1,300 care homes, health care and education settings.

Our meals are expertly crafted by our dieticians and chefs, and then frozen to lock in the goodness.

Wiltshire Farm Foods, our sister company, is the UK’s largest ready meal supplier cooking and delivering over 330 different delicious frozen ready meals across the UK.

Responsibilities

  • Introduce and maintain sustainable practices such as 5S, Standard Work, Visual Management, and Gemba Walks
  • Design and lead strategic CI initiatives using Toyota Lean principles, Six Sigma, and DMAIC frameworks
  • Identify and eliminate waste through systematic analysis of workflows, material flows, and transport operations
  • Engage with cross-functional leaders to embed a Lean mindset from warehouse floor to transport control
  • Use data-driven insights and KPI dashboards to track progress, communicate impact, and influence decision-making
  • Develop internal capability through CI training programs, workshops, and one-on-one coaching
  • Collaborate on automation, WMS optimisation, and cold-chain logistics improvements
  • Support operational readiness for seasonal volume surges through agility initiatives
  • Support operations by identifying and delivering, measurable, cost savings in line with the annual budgets, 3/5 year plan or agreed objectives

About you

  • Extensive CI experience in logistics, warehousing, or food distribution—ideally in a temperature-controlled setting
  • Formal training in Toyota Production System, Six Sigma (Green or Black Belt), or equivalent improvement methodologies
  • Demonstrable success delivering and leading change using Lean toolsets with quantifiable outcomes
  • Highly developed problem-solving skills with an analytical mindset and comfort working with large datasets
  • Skilled communicator who can influence, challenge, and inspire across all levels—from forklift drivers to directors
  • Hands-on, pragmatic leadership style with strong facilitation and project management experience
  • Ability to train the leadership team in basic skills and understanding of lean principles, 5 Whys and problem solving
  • Due to the location of the Portbury distribution centre, a driving licence and own transport is required.  You will be based on-site 5 days per week.

Company Benefits

  • Competitive salary – accredited Living Wage employer
  • 33 days holiday per year, including bank holidays (which are considered a normal working day)
  • Option to purchase up to 5 additional days holiday per year
  • Discretionary annual bonus scheme
  • Pension scheme - employer matched contributions up to 4%
  • Life assurance scheme worth at least 1x annual salary
  • Free meals, snacks and beverages on site
  • Free parking
  • Free turkey or voucher at Christmas
  • Access to employee benefits including Perkbox with salary sacrifice options and retail discounts
